The sale price at the 1997 Christie's auction was:Here is the link to Christie’s Auction House’s website pertaining to the Klimt painting that was the subject of Gruen v. Gruen: http://www.christies.com/LotFinder/lot_details.aspx? intObjectID=205113 Turns out that this was actually the second sale of the painting after V. Gruens’ death. It was sold in 1987 by M. Gruen (appellant in the case in our book) at Sotheby’s Auction House for $5.3 Million immediately after he received possession of it.
